Cranleigh Lions Carnival & Fun Day
Took Place on Saturday 26th June 2010

The sun shone and the common came alive as the Lions staged the Annual Carnival and Fun Day....new ideas, new look and a fun dog show all made for another successful day in the life of Cranleigh.

A big thank you to all those that took part, sponsored, organised displays, ran the side shows, booked a trade stand, marched, created a float and to all residents and families that supported the day.

It was an action packed day from the start with visitors arriving shortly after 10am to enjoy the party atmosphere created by Cranleigh Lions – the fun stretched from Stockland Square and along the common all bathed in glorious sunshine.

The highlight of the day remained the Carnival Procession which this year saw two of the country’s top Samba Bands & the Chinese Lion Dancers who joined the local schools and associations to produce a sea of colour and sound as they weaved their way through the centre of Cranleigh.

The club was pleased to welcome the Deputy Mayor & Mayoress, Cllr Richard & Mrs Evelyn Gates who along with Lion President Michael Meek enjoyed judging the procession entries, top prize was awarded to St Joseph’s School.

Despite the blistering hot weather the Fun Dog Show was well attended and this year the club introduced the exciting sport of Flyball in a separate arena. The top prize in the Dog Show, judged by Sally Hayward was won by Teddy, a French bulldog with handler Lydia.

The main show arena was in action all day with several local schools and dance groups sharing the limelight with the professional acts and bands.The club was very lucky to have the World Champion Chinese Lion Dancer taking part throughout the day.

The show relies very much on the support of local businesses and associations and Show Chairman Brian Burt would like to give a huge thank you to everybody involved in making this year’s show such a success.
