Lions International Indonesia Earthquake Appeal

Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) has launched three Emergency Appeals to help Lions Clubs rebuild their communities. The appeals are:

Indonesian Earthquake 2009

LCIF is working with local Lions to respond to massive earthquake that rocked Pandang, Indonesia. As of October 2, at least 1,100 people are dead and many more are missing. Officials believe 90 percent of the residents – as many as a few hundred people – were buried. Three villages were flattened to rubble.

Philippines Typhoon 2009

LCIF is working with local Lions to respond to Typhoon Ketsana, the devastating typhoon that ravaged the Philippines. As of September 30, at least 246 people dead and an additional 38 people missing, according to the nation's National Disaster Coordinating Council. Nearly 2 million people were affected by the killer storm and 567,000 people had been evacuated. LCIF has awarded four emergency grants in the amount of $10,000 each to Districts 301-A1, 301-A2, 301-D1 and 301-D2 to purchase immediate relief supplies.

Samoa Tsunami Relief

LCIF is working with local Lions to respond to a massive tsunami that hit Samoa around dawn on September 29. The tsunami was triggered by a powerful earthquake, measuring between 8.0 and 8.3. As of October 2, more than 168 people are dead and many more are missing in Samoa, American Samoa and Tonga. LCIF hasawarded two US$10,000 emergency grants for relief efforts.
