The Easter Egg Appeal run by Farnham Lions was supported again in 2010 by the Cranleigh Lions, as well as Fleet, Frimley & Camberley, Godalming, Guildford, Leatherhead and Surrey Borders clubs.

Cranleigh Lions raised over £1,000 towards the grand total and were shown around the helicopter and facilities at Dunsfold after the presentation.

In the year to March 2010, the Air Ambulance flew 592 missions, at a cost of approximately £1,000 per mission, of which half were to road traffic incidents. The inclusion of a doctor on board gave the Air Ambulance opportunity to provide enhanced roadside assistance over a road ambulance that operates without a doctor on board. Whilst the current regulations limit the helicopter to daytime visual flying it is hoped to soon be able to fly at night providing a great service in inter hospital transfer of emergency cases.

The Air Ambulance has made a significant difference to many of the patients that they have treated, some of whom would not have been alive today, had it not been for the skills of the on-board specialist doctors and paramedics.

Cranleigh Lions' President Michael Meek with secretary Paul Withers paid a visit to Blossom Nursery School, in the Cranleigh Methodist Church, taking with them 10 small teddy bears & a cheque for £500.

The money was raised at the Lions recent Race Night when Bev & Claire, co-owners of Blossom Nursery School, helped by running a raffle & a roll-a-dice game.

President Michael said -

"The Lions are pleased to support the Nursery's efforts to provide a bursary so that young children who may otherwise miss the opportunity can get financial assistance. The teddy bears with the Lions logo are part of a consignment that we bought mainly for the local ambulance service to carry with them to help comfort any young child who may need a "ride in an ambulance".

Cranleigh Cricket Club coach has won the 2010 Cranleigh Lions Youth Sports Award

Simon took over the running of the youngest age group at the cricket club, the so called "Crickets" ages 5 -7! This is undoubtedly the most challenging age group to coach because they have a concentration span measured in milliseconds!!!

Previously the group had been coached by Simon's mum Beverley Warren who became very ill at the start of that season and sadly passed away in August of 2004. Simon helped his Mum in those last few months fulfil her coaching commitment to the club and continued coaching the group for a further 3 years until his exam and university commitments got the better of him.

Simon also helped out with other age groups during the clubs winter nets sessions. Simon plans to return to Cranleigh when his university education is complete to carry on his good work within the community.

In his cricketing career Simon has also progressed well; he has recently been selected for Loughborough University's "A" squad and is due to fly out of Heathrow on the 26th March 2010 to Sri Lanka on a two week tour to represent the University.
