It is with great sadness that the Cranleigh & District Lions club announce the death, after a long illness, of one of our past presidents, Lion Tony Paris late on New Year’s Eve 2018.
Lion Tony, who was the current Chairman of the Welfare & Community Services Committee, will be greatly missed and our deepest sympathy and condolences go out to his widow Kathy & 3 sons, Ian, Steward & Philip & his grandchildren.
Tony, who joined the Cranleigh Lions in 1992, was the Club president 3 times, from 1997-98, 2007-08 & 2014-15. As well as being the Club President, Tony had served as Club Treasurer, Club Secretary & as the Bonfire Committee Chairman for several years. Additionally, he had served on the Lions South East District Cabinet as Zone Chairman & then as Region Chairman.
His services to the Community were recognised by the International Association of Lions Clubs with an award of a Melvin Jones Fellowship. This award, in memory of the Lions founder, was presented to Tony at a Presentation Evening held at Cranleigh School in February 2017.
The Lions are confident that Tony helped make a positive difference to the lives of very many people. We are very proud to say that Tony continued to work on his computer from his sick bed at home for the benefit of the Lions & our community right up to Christmas, which he then enjoyed with all his family.
